Summary: Restoration (118 min., 1995, rated R): In 17th century Britain, a young man seduced by the wealth and indolence of the Restoration court finds redemption of sorts through the love of a woman. An ideal husband (Based on the play of the same title by Oscar Wilde, 99 min., 1999, rated PG-13): Sir Robert Chiltern is a successful government minister, well-off and with a loving wife. All this is threatened when Mrs. Chieveley appears in London with damning evidence of a past misdeed. Sir Robert turns for help to his friend Lord Goring, an apparently idle philanderer and the despair of his father. Goring knows the lady of old, and, for him, takes the whole thing pretty seriously. Her majesty Mrs. Brown (105 min., 1997, rated PG-13): While grieving for her dead husband, Prince Albert, Queen Victoria falls under the healthy influence of John Brown, the unapologetically brash Scottish manservant who oversees the royal retreat at Balmoral. When the two become close friends--and perhaps even physical intimates--the royal family and the nation reel from the scandal. Tom & Viv (115 min., 1994, rated PG-13): Tom & Viv tells the story of the passionate yet turbulent relationship between T.S. Eliot and his beautiful wife, Vivienne. Although she was the inspiration for his greatest works, Eliot finally had to make a choice between standing by the emotionally troubled Vivienne and letting her go.
