When Dave Coopers arrived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, he was returning to the frontier town of his childhood not to renew old friendships, but to serve as an undercover agent for the U.S. Secret Service. Ten years earlier a million dollars in Treasury Notes—en route to the Treasury Department for the authorized signatures that would validate them—were stolen from a Union Pacific train. Recently some of the stolen bills, complete with signatures, had begun surfacing in Chicago and other Midwestern cities. Coopers’ mission: locate the stolen currency and apprehend the clever forger. But someone has blown his cover and the local sheriff suspects Dave of murdering his own Secret Service contacts.
